Spear of Destiny, unlike its hit predecessor, sold very few copies, most of which were bought by Wolfenstein fans. Unlike Wolfenstein 3-D, which was released under the obsolete shareware scheme, Spear of Destiny was published like a modern game, with a tiny two-level demo and the full commercial version available in stores (Wolfenstein was ordered direct from the developer or publisher until its commercial rerelease in 1998). It is also extremely short, with 21 smallish levels that can be blown through in a couple of hours. Although Spear of Destiny is plenty of fun, it does not improve on Wolfenstein 3-D in any real way. Spear of Destiny, created in just one month, is basically more Wolfenstein. There were FPS-type games made before, but Wolfenstein really laid down the rules of what an FPS was all about.
